It isn’t the same now…almost 2 years ago…we lost our Christmas spirit. I know, the spirit of Christmas doesn’t live in one human, but for us it kinda does. The house was “decked”, the music was playing…we made plans, we shopped…we looked forward to that wonderful day. An all day affair of opening presents, singing songs, noshing on wonderful appetizers, and don’t forget the whiskey sours!
Last year was hard. This year is leaden. Seriously. The Christmas holiday spirit kinda hangs on each of our shoulders like lead weights. No happy smiles, sneaky present whispers…the thought of putting ornaments on the tree…well…no, I don’t want to. Conveniently, there are still things out from last year…never got around to putting them away.
But, make no mistake…the “reason for the season” is not lost on me – it is truly the birth of our Savior. And while the wistful frolicking of elves in the snow (yeah, right) doesn’t lift my heart…knowing that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that we are remembering the day of his birth…well, that does bring a smile to my face.
The voice of him
Who cryeth in the wilderness
Prepare ye the way of the Lord
Make straight in the desert
A highway for our God… Isaiah 40:3
